Football bosses in new ESWAMCU Board
MBABANE - Renowned football chiefs, former Green Mamba CEO Thamie Phakathi and the incumbent Young Buffaloes CEO Sandile Gwebu have been named in the new ESWAMCU Board by the Minister for Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo.
Phakathi who is employed at His Majesty's Correctional Services is the new President of the Eswatini Multi-purpose Cooperative Union (ESWAMCU) while Gwebu is the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee.
Gwebu is employed by the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) and is known for transforming the army's Hlalawati Cooperative.
Following recent ESWAMCU Forensic Audit issues, a Special General Meeting was held on February 7, 2025, following the receipt of the Forensic Audit report from SNG Grant Thornton.
As per the Co-operative Societies Act, 2003 (Amended), the management and supervisory committees were dissolved, paving the way for this fresh start.
The ESWAMCU will be under the capable administration and supervision of the Office of the Commissioner for Co-operatives Development for the next three years.
NEW ESWAMCU BOARD MEMBERS:
• Mr. Thamsanqa Phakathi (President)
• Mr. Mhlonipheni Msibi (Vice President)
• Mr. Sipho I. Dlamini (Secretary)
• Mr. Sifiso Mhlongo (Treasurer)
Additionally, the Supervisory Committee will include:
• Mr. Sandile Gwebu (Chairperson)
• Mr. Mandla Masuku (Secretary)
• Mr. Sipho T. Kunene (Member)
