Football to blend with culture in Ingwenyama Cup finals

 


Football and Culture will perfectly blend for the Ingwenyama Cup finals on Sunday.

Finalists in all categories including elite men and women football and cultural activities like Lacwebetelako, Timbhongi, Lutsango and Ingadla received their kits in a presentation held at Nkhanini.


 Sponsored to the tune of a mouthwatering E5 million by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, the finals set to be graced by His Majesty King Mswati III will be staged at Somhlolo National Stadium.

The momentous kit presentation occasion marked yet another remarkable step in ensuring the tournament remains not only about the game but also about honoring Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.

The Chairman of the Culture CommitteePrince Bukhosi expressed immense gratitude for the gathering, highlighting the presence of cultural group captains as an essential feature. Their role in witnessing the kit presentation further cemented the integration between football and tradition in the tournament’s ethos.

On behalf of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), Chairman Polycarp Dlamini applauded the unity displayed by the committees and teams. He urged supporters to attend in great numbers while reminding all about the importance of road safety. Football is best enjoyed when players and fans arrive safely and in high spirits, ready for the thrilling battles ahead.


Stepping forward with words of encouragement, SMVAF CEO David Myeni expressed appreciation for the attendees and reinforced the Fund's commitment to seeing the Ingwenyama Cup unfold successfully until the finals. He also acknowledged the public’s attentiveness to SMVAF’s safety messages shared during tournament games—a crucial step in ensuring safety remains a priority. Myeni then introduced SMVAF Board Chairman Representative Bongani Zwane, who shared his delight at the event’s progress. He emphasized the Board’s happiness with the current stage of preparations and extended his well wishes to all teams heading into the final matches.

The highlight of the event was the inspirational remarks delivered by HRH Prince Hlangabeza, who spoke on behalf of Their Majesties. His Royal Highness underscored Their Majesties' unwavering support in equipping teams with necessary kits. Now, the responsibility rests upon the players to give their best performances on the field. He reiterated the King’s desire for continuity in such celebrations, ensuring joy and unity remain at the heart of the tournament. Furthermore, His Royal Highness encouraged the public to share ideas on how to enhance events of this nature. In a powerful closing sentiment, he conveyed His Majesty’s prayers for a fair and competitive final stage, hoping that all teams would engage with sportsmanship and determination.


Nkosilenhle Masuku stepped forward to introduce the culture teams, marking a significant moment in the programme. He emphasized the importance of cultural representation and noted that following the culture teams' presentations, the football teams would follow suit, ensuring a harmonious blend between tradition and sport. With unwavering commitment from officials, committees, and players, the journey toward the finals promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
